Our tradition and history

The iron industry played an important role in the history of the Eifel, as it shaped the landscape and people in its time of prosperity (15th-19th century).

Therefore it was an essential factor for the cultural and economic development of the Eifel. The raw materials were on the doorstep, so to speak, as there were forests for the preparation of charcoal, ironstone was mined in nearby opencast mines and the streams and rivers drove the bellows and hammers of the first huts.
